WFCR Foundation

The WFCR Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization created to conduct fund raising activities for WFCR. Their mission is to guarantee WFCR's future as a premier public media organization by enhancing financial support, promoting community interest, and providing advice and recommendations to station management and its license holder.

The WFCR Foundation By-Laws cite the purpose of the "corporation" as: "...comprised primarily of community leaders. The purposes of the Corporation shall be to provide financial support to 88.5FM WFCR Public Radio ("WFCR") and to provide advice and make recommendations to station management and its license holder on all matters related to the overall programming, operations and strategies of WFCR."

The Foundation comprises community members who are passionately committed to WFCR and to public radio. The Foundation's' Executive Committee meets monthly, and is guided by a full board of directors which holds quarterly meetings. Upcoming meetings will be held on December 14th, February 8th (Amherst College), March 22nd (Mass Ventures Bldg), April 26th (Smith College), and June 28th (Springfield). Meetings are open to the public beginning at 7:30PM.

Nomination Process

The WFCR Foundation Nominating Committee accepts nominations for vacant board positions at any time. As stated in the Foundation's By-Laws, "Any vacancy at any time existing in the Directors, may be filled by a vote of a majority of Directors then in office at any meeting. Vacancies will be posted at WFCR's website. Nominations may be submitted at any time, even if there is not a vacancy."

The process whereby nominations for board positions are accepted is as follows:*

  1. Those interested in nominating an individual for a seat on the WFCR Foundation Board of Directors should complete and submit (either by mail or electronically) the WFCR Foundation Nomination Form.
  2. All nomination forms will be submitted for consideration by the Nominating/Board Governance Committee at their next meeting.
  3. The Nominating/Board Governance Committee will determine the qualifications of the nominee based upon the criteria established for that committee.
  4. Nominees will be notified in a timely manner of the disposition of their nomination.
  • There are currently 6 open seats on the Board.

*The process for nomination of the five college representatives is separate from the above.
