HD Radio

One of WFCR's multiple program choices is right on the FM dial! But you'll need a new HD™ digital radio to hear it. It's 88.5FM WFCR HD2, which is also streamed here at wfcr.org.

In addition to more programming (check out our full schedule here), HD Radio broadcasting will give you dramatically higher quality audio, new wireless data services without the static, hiss, pops or fades that can happen with analog FM broadcasts. And not only is HD2 digital, our main 88.5FM channel (now HD1) is also digital! FM now sounds like a CD!

Over the past several years, technology and the market have begun to converge to offer a wealth of choices of HD radios and in-car options.

To support WFCR listeners in their need for ongoing information and insights into HD technology, we've created this portion of our website dedicated to the topic. As more information about the technology and the ever expanding options for owning HD radios becomes available, we'll provide it to you, our listeners, here.

Thank you for your ongoing support of NPR news and music for western New England and enjoy!

WiFi radio is the most revolutionary thing to happen in radio this decade. If you have a favorite station you can't listen to clearly then WiFi radio is the ultimate solution for reception problems.

You can pick up over 6,000 radio stations world wide. No crackles, pops, boundaries or fees. Nine out of ten new WiFi radios can be set up in a few minutes. That's the magic of Wi-Fi Internet radio!

Of course you can listen to WFCR's three program streams along with other links right from WFCR.org. Now you can be anywhere in your home, even with your computer turned off, and be able to listen, with no interference, to clear static-free radio or to your own computer based or iPod music library.

To find out more, go to the NPR Shop and type "WiFi" in the search area. This link offers two excellent and inexpensive options: the Tangent Quattro Wi-Fi Radio and the Acoustic Energy Wi-Fi Internet Radio.

I'd also suggest checking out Radio Roku. The Roku puts more than 4,000 radio stations worldwide with your computer turned off! If your computer is on, you can use the Roku to browse your iTunes library, including podcasts, from any room in the house. Another company that carries three WiFi Internet radios is C. Crane.
