Internships at WFCR

WFCR is a public radio station licensed to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, operating with the advice of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges. As an affiliate of National Public Radio and Public Radio International, WFCR serves over 180,000 listeners in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire with news and information, and classical, jazz, and locally-produced music.

Statement of General Purpose for Internships
In January 2002, WFCR established a program with the Five Colleges to provide internship opportunities for students in the areas of Development, Marketing & Communications, News, and Broadcast Operations. The program also encourages collaborations with departments of the Five Colleges that are interested in pursuing related courses of study.  While we do give priority to students of the Five Colleges, internships are open to anyone who applies. These opportunities are designed with two purposes in mind: to provide experience in the area of interest and to help WFCR meet its operational needs. Internships are offered for a minimum period of one semester, or summer break, with the expectation of 8–10 hours per week of student time. They may be renewed for an additional period.  Interns may request to spend some of their time in departments outside their primary internship assignment.  WFCR does not offer compensation for internships.
