[12/29/08] Today on Field Notes: a look at the multi-year, multi-million dollar effort underway in Worcester, Massachusetts, to control a massive infestation of the Asian Long-horned Beetle. This month crews are beginning the process of cutting down thousands of trees in the most heavily infested areas of the city. As naturalist Laurie Sanders reports, the insect is considered to be one of the most serious threats to North American hardwood trees. [12/22/08] Since the 1990s ash trees in our region have been weakened and killed due to the invasion of a new disease called Ash Yellows. This week on Field Notes naturalist Laurie Sanders reports on another threat to ash in America--the Emerald Ash Borer.
